Leave a Legacy

When you are planning your Will, your loved ones should always come first, but it's also an ideal opportunity to leave a lasting gift to a cause you believe in.

For many people, leaving a gift in their Will may be the one and only time they can afford to make a charitable donation and that makes it special

How your legacy will make a difference

Leaving a legacy to Advocacy Plus will cost you nothing today, but will make a huge difference to the lives of many older people.

You will be helping older people to have a voice when others, without their consent, are making decisions about their future.

You will be supporting and relieving the stress of those who care for older people by funding our advocates who take up issues on their behalf.

Most of the older people we help are frail, disabled, isolated and lonely or suffering from mental illness or dementia. They need to be able to make their own decisions and your legacy will ensure that they can.

If you already have a Will

Including a gift in your Will to Advocacy Plus is simple. If you already have a Will, all you need to do is instruct your solicitor of the amount, our name, address and registered charity number (1136370).

If you do not have a Will

Making a Will doesn't have to be costly or complicated. Your Will is one of the most important documents you will ever write, so we recommend using a solicitor to ensure that all the legal formalities are correctly followed.

Knowing your Will is valid and that it expresses your exact wishes will give you peace of mind.

To remember Advocacy Plus in your Will, by leaving a gift, it is important to understand that legacies to charities come in several different forms, for example:

  • Residuary legacy: part of your estate remaining after family and friends have been looked after
  • Pecuniary legacy: a lump sum of money
  • Specific items: jewellery, antiques, or shares

Charities are exempt from inheritance tax, so you may also reduce the tax burden on your estate.
